The Santa Challenge
The Santa Challenge is a virtual journey between Bedfordshire and Lapland. We challenge schools to see if they can travel virtually to Lapland during a two-week period by counting up walking, scooting and cycling trips to school. Each child receives a record card on which to log their journeys. In 2018, over 12,000 pupils will be taking part. Last year, we collectively travelled over four times around the world.
2019 Santa Challenge resources can be downloaded here.
Do think about ways you can learn about the journey: the countries, their cultures (especially Christmas traditions), people, towns and cities. This website can help (https://www.whychristmas.com/cultures/)
Think that it's too cold outside to get on your bike? Here are a couple of films you can show, one about winter cycling in Helsinki, Finland and another showing author Tim Moore's epic journey around the Iron Curtain, which began in snowy Finland.
